Five Things You Do not Lose With the Job

When you become unemployed many problems will arise. Some problems may have been present and were controllable, while others will show up seemingly from nowhere. From the first week of unemployment, using what you have in regards to knowledge and resourcefulness will get you through to the next job.
Work and Achievement
Work is defined as any action which creates a result. It does not have to be monetary to be a positive result. Using what you have gained in knowledge and experience from previous employers can help you achieve future goals and achievements.
  • Problem solving
  • Goal setting
  • Performance and analysis of recent actions.
  • Responsibility and dedication to the task at hand.
Thinking and Goal Setting
When you had a job you were expected to think and set goals for the task at hand. Most goals were smaller in nature and required minimal thought. Using what you have now still requires thinking and setting goals. The goals are different, but the thought process is still the same.
  • What is the main goal?
  • What do I need to get the goal?
  • What steps do I need to take to achieve the goal
Unemployment simply requires using what you have in a different way to achieve new goals. The formula to reach those goals has not changed.
Adaptation
Our ability to adapt and adjust to problems and situations doesn't go away when you lose a job.
  • Interaction and cooperation with others
  • Skill learning
  • Critical thinking
  • Using available resources most effectively.
In using what you have learned through problem solving and interaction with others, you are better suited to find solutions to any current problem.
Self Sufficiency
Human nature is guided by the need for self reliance and independence. When it comes to using what you have within you to provide for yourself and your family, consider that your abilities go well beyond the last job you held. The job was a tool for self sufficiency. When one tool becomes unusable, there is always another tool not far away. Looking for the right tool is still within you.
These five things allow you to stay alive and function as an individual. Using what you have learned from past experiences allows you to know your limits and set expectations for yourself. Setting goals and taking small steps to those goals will ultimately lead the way out of unemployment.
